Azure Data Factory ERROR [IM003] ODBC Connection.

Applies to: Azure Data Factory, .

Date created: September 25, 2023.

Problem Description.

A user needed to create a linked service with an ODBC connection in Azure Data Factory to copy data from on-premises to Azure SQL Database.

The Progress OpenEdge 11.7 ODBC Driver was installed on the SHIR, but when the user tried to create a linked service he received the following error message

ERROR [IM003] Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 5: Access is denied. (Progress OpenEdge 11.7 Driver, C:\Users\Xuser\Desktop\OpenEdge-11.7\pgoe27.dll)".

Despite the error received the user was able to test successfully the connection on the SHIR.

Cause.

The driver was installed on the Desktop folder of the Windows user profile where the SHIR does not have access.

Workaround/Solution.

Instead of installing the driver on a folder inside a user profile, please proceed to install the driver on a folder on the root of the system drive like C:\OpenEdge-11.7\ and make a right click on the folder that contains the driver, then select Properties, on that dialog make a click on the Security tab, and provide Read access to "Everyone" on that folder and its content.

Make a click on the Security tab and then make a click on the Edit button.

Make a click on the Add button.

Write "everyone", then make a click on the "Check Names" button.

Make a click on the OK button.

Finally, make a click on the OK button again.

You should be able to create the linked service now.
