The account for PolyBase Engine service is not allowed.

Applies to: SQL Server 2012, SQL Server 2014.

Problem Description.

When you install SQL Server 2016 and select the option to use the server as part of a PolyBase scale-out group, after setting a builtin account like "NT Authority\NETWORK SERVICE" as service account for the PolyBase services, you may get the following message:

The specified account for SQL Server PolyBase Engine (same error for PolyBase Data Movement) service is not allowed because you have chosen to either install this instance as part of a SQL Server failover cluster or to use this instance as a part of PolyBase scale-out group. To continue, provide a domain account for the SQL Server PolyBase Engine service.

Cause.

On Polybase Scale-out Groups scenarios the account that runs PolyBase services must be a domain account. You cannot choose a built-in account as service account on this scenario.
